What is Confidence?
The Oxford Dictionary defines confidence as “a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.” Confidence is knowing your skills and trusting in yourself that you can achieve your goals and perform well. For some people, confidence comes easily but for others it doesn’t. Therefore, we are providing three tips to increase your confidence while not creating arrogance.
Confidence vs Arrogance
There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance but your goal should be to be confident. Confidence is a positive trait that is a positive impact on those around you, unlike arrogance. Both confidence and arrogance are based off of your abilities. However, confidence is focused on growth mindset while arrogance is part of the fixed mindset.
4 Tips for Increasing Confidence
- The first tip involves self talk. As we discussed before, self talk can greatly impact you and it is important to have positive and constructive self talk. Evidently, people who focus on those types of self talk develop skills quicker and are able to increase their confidence as they reach those goals.
- This next tip involves goal-setting. You should be setting both short-term and long-term goals. As you continue to reach your goals, you become more confident in your ability to reach your next one.
- Our third tip is pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. Being able to try new things, learn something new, and continue to push yourself, will allow you to continue to be better, stronger, etc. Therefore, you create a space where you can continue to build your confidence and learn something new about yourself.
- Finally, remember you are not alone. You do not have to be 100% confident, 100% of the time. It is okay to ask for help when you are struggling with your mindset, your goals, or anything else.
How to Use These Tips
To use these tips, it is about practicing them everyday like you do other skills related to your life. Take a few minutes everyday, to focus on what self talk you are using, what steps you are taking for your goals, how can you get comfortable with the uncomfortable, and who you can reach out to if you struggle today.
